Poppies

The poppy tutorial on Grosgrain is great.  I think I will use it to embellish a purse or blouse someday soon.  I had this idea in my mind after looking at the poppy post and thought I would share.

Using felt given to me I made three different sizes.  Because the felt is thick I didn't need to use fabric stiffener or hair spray as suggest on the tutorial.  For the stems I twisted more felt and just hot glued it on.  The board is a piece of plywood I found in the garage (hopefully it won't be missed).  I used some white gauze and tightly glued it in place.

Because I was able to find everything around my house it cost me nothing to make.  But I'm sure this would be an en inexpensive project.

Accessory Purse

We're headed on a trip, and I decided that I needed something to hold cell phones, cameras, chargers & extra batteries.  I used this pattern, and think when I get back I need to make a few more.

The outer fabric is from my stash.  It's been in my collection for a while--I didn't know what to do with it, until this project came along.
The lining for the purse deserves a thank you to one of my swappers in the last I-Spy swap for sending me this great fat quarter.  When I paired up the green and brown I knew it would be great.
You can see the pockets I sewed in on the top part of this picture.
The instructions are very thorough, making it a fun project.

Fabric Arrival

Here is some fabric for my current I-Spy swap.
Codi commented asking if she could participate in this swap--could you please email me?

Crafty Maine Mom sent these great swatches.
I love the flamingos & fire hydrants

Chocolate Cake with Chocoalte Cream Frosting

Simply the yummiest cake to eat with a tall glass of milk.

For the cake make your favorite chocolate cake.  I make mine from a mix add almost a full bag of chocolate chips and bake.  The cake that went with the frosting recipe was too dry for my taste buds.

1/2 C  Butter
1/2 C  Shortening
    Cream
1 tsp Vanilla
4-6 C Powdered Sugar
1/3 C Water (add until your desired consistency)
Beat until fluffy.  And spread the magic.

Caught a Bug

It bothers me when people apologize for not posting on their blog a certain amount of time.  Really people?  It's your blog--it's like you are apologizing for being you.  So, I'm not going to apologize for not posting in over a week--but I will tell you what I've been up to for the last week.

Last Wednesday my little princess turned 4.  We had a great costume party, ate lunch with Grandma & Papa & went to Red Robin for dinner.  It was a great day--one of those days that you know that your kids know how much they are loved.  At 2 the next morning mom and princess were sharing the bathroom--one to get a bath after throwing up all over herself and the bed, the other not able to get off the pot.  Thank goodness my husband loves me--he spent 2 1/2 hours cleaning up the bedroom and starting loads of laundry.  He really should have been cursing my name because I didn't put the waterproof pad back on the bed after washing it.
I spent most of Thursday on the couch, recliner or bed.  My hubby stayed home and made sure I was hydrated.
Friday started out great.  I was feeling better, not good enough to exercise, but good enough to start deep cleaning my house.  Not only did I feel like my house had a sick bug in it I had 20 people coming over for Easter brunch.  All was going well until the phone rang and my husbands co-worker informed me hubby was on the way home and to just unlock the front door.  Good thing I hadn't started dinner.  So he spent the rest of the night and part of Saturday not far from a bathroom.  My in-laws both came down with the bug, so I trooped over there with kids, Gatorade & saltines.  They were out and in desperate need.
Saturday we cleaned and scrubbed and aired out the house.  I had officially caught the spring cleaning bug.  It was great, I was super focused and cleaned the house top to bottom.  Easter brunch was great, no one yet has reported ill.
Monday after Easter we woke up to a skiff of snow--which for some reason made me excited.  I continued to clean my home.  Organizing drawers, closets and cupboards and my sewing room.
(These things will always be on the floor in my sewing room)
It is Thursday now and I feel another bug coming on.  Now that my house is clean, I want to sew--it's a sewing bug.
Here's a pile of clothes to be refashioned--found by cleaning my closet.

Here's a sneak peek of my current project.
